03:55 pm - King Solomon's mines, exit 75, I'm still alive
Today is my last day of my Californian holiday, and I'm glad I survived. It was taxing to an astonishing, horrific degree - however, it is very nearly over, and I now have the space that I can see the good that came of it. Which brings me to the point where I accentuate the positive:

THE SWEET AND MARVELOUS PARTS OF THE HOLIDAY

*The Health and Harmony fair, where I got tons of free food and beer, saw some good bands, got free "soul and dream readings" that revealed nothing, and observed the oddest tatto theme ever. Note to everyone: please don't get naked Betty Boop tattoos all over your torso, it's not so pretty when you're sixty-something. Same goes for quadruple nipple piercings.
*The birth control pill turned 40 and is still damn sexy. [Wonkette]
*I met some great folks - Megan (no darling, I won't find a boyfriend on craigslist, but thanks anyway), Justin (thank you for being a classy little diamond in Sonoma County's box of gaudy, overly dramatic costume jewelery), Leila Anne (girl, you've got some wicked style - I definitely want to go to heaven-o!), Jessica and her lovely little boy Fallon (you are a fabulous mother, I'm so glad I re-met you), and Mick at the Black Cat (thanks for the Long Island iced teas!) Addendum: Theo, oh man, you're out doing your angel-work when most people haven't gotten out of bed yet - thank you for being the Buddhist life coach I needed right at that moment.
*The little piece of paper which read "Rather than be concerned with what others think of you, you concern yourself with what you think of yourself -- Om Shanti" which was handed to me at exactly the moment I needed to learn that particular lesson. Bless you, Brahma Kumaris!
*My family, who are crazy as loons, violent when provoked, and whom I love with a fierceness that even shocks me at times.
*The highly insightful Enneagram personality analysis by Darling Matthew (who is anything but random)!
*Losing weight without trying - fuck yeah!
*Becoming much more clear about what it is that I really want in my life right now - I won't go into detail, but it will suffice to say that it's much more India.Arie than Broadway showtunes.
*Having lots of time to read The Autograph Man by Zadie Smith, Autobiography of a Yogi by Paramahansa Yogananda, and The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath.
*Understanding clearly that I have some of the best friends in Olympia a boy could ask for - you know who you are, you are wild and beautiful angels that I am deeply blessed to be acquainted with.
*The pomegranate/cranberry SoBe Elixir - OH SWEET LORD, it's a tart ruby-red orgasm in a recyclable bottle!
*Free drinks at rural gay bars. Thanks again, Mick!
*Garden State and the perspective it gives me on my troubles when they arise.
*The sting of sun on my skin without the agony of sunburn.
*The time and space to get back into swimming and Pilates without having to expend the money necessary for either.
*Getting to go one step past Camus - fuck the dead of winter, even in the beginning of the hot months I can know that within me there lies an Invincible Summer that isn't cooled by the winds of Sonoma County.

Coming soon - the official June 2005 Californian Holiday mix by Superstar DJ nickmattos2. You hear it first!
For now, I am off to the coffee shop to sit about with my composition book and snap my fingers like a beatnik. Stay cool, daddy-o. Much love - Nick
